About My Style
About My Style
We get Massage for many reasons: Relaxation, Rejuvenation, Rehabilitation, to Ground Ourselves to Restore Ourselves to Reconnect Ourselves and sometimes we don't know why we want a Massage other than it feels good.
Depending on what you are looking for will greatly influence my style, but I believe after a massage you should feel balanced, renewed and unstuck in places you didn’t know you were stuck. You should be able to better understand what your body is telling you.
Some practices and techniques I find to be beneficial are
1 Stretching
I tend to modify Thai Massage stretching into a table massage. Most of us are unfortunately not stretching enough, which limits our range of motion making us more vulnerable to injuries. I have found, gentle stretching that allows for greater blood flow congested areas and retrains the nervous system to allow the body to feel safe. An indispensable tool to keep you dynamic.
2 Trigger Point-
Unfortunately, do to the repetitiousness of the modern world, we are prone to use our skeletal muscles in repetitious ways. This provides the perfect environment for trigger points to form. But we do not have to suffer this modern curse. Trigger points can tell us where we are over-stressing the body and where we should add variation to our movement.
3 Shaking Vibration, Jostling
Whatever you call it, It a great way to rid the body of tension and unwanted energy, allowing for those deep neuro-muscular resets.
4 Working Fascial Meridians
Outside of gyms and factories no one isolate muscles when we move. We are constantly creating intricate muscle patterns to performs the daily tasks of life. I recently learned that the first muscle we engage when we push an elevator button with our right hand is out left Gastrocnemius (Our most superficial calf muscle that starts at the heel and crosses our knee joint.). We need to tighten up this muscle to allow us to balance when our arms are out of symmetry. Because of this interplay, pain in one part of the body is often caused by an imbalance in another part of the body. Working through a median between where an injury is and where the pain is felt allow us to connect to our bodies and modify its patterns
5 Breath Practice
We are alive we will perform no action more. Breath is a complicated action incorporating dozens of muscles. The more we practice deep expansive breathing, engaging the many muscles that assist in the breath, the deeper our bodies will naturally breathe. Our breath influences our heart rate, which in turns influences our autonomous nervous system, (fight or flight). Cultivating awareness to our breath, in my opinion, is the single best thing we all have access to, to have a healthy emotional life.
